Valentines Day, Proposal Stats, and Weddings in Asheville Stats
Okay, so today, we’re going to be covering a lot!
I'm scrolling through my emails as the clock turns to 12:05 a.m. on Valentine's Day. I see an email from a company I do continuing education through titled “Why Wedding Proposals Fail.” I laugh a little at how ironic it is that I saw that email today. So, I thought I’d share some statistics from the article with you all!
Proposal Rejection Statistics
50% of people who propose in public are rejected. Without an audience, the rejection rate is 32%.
If you’ve been married more than once, this decreases the acceptance rate of a proposal.
If you’ve dated for less than two years, this also reduces the acceptance rate.
If the person doesn’t get down on one knee, the rejection rate increases by 4.7%.
If you don’t offer a ring during the proposal, it’s 8.5% more likely to be rejected.
Valentine’s Day Statistics
Now, I’m sure you're thinking, "Why are you telling us this on Valentine’s Day?” I’m sharing this information because, even with these statistics, statistics show that 10% of married couples got engaged on Valentine’s Day.
Valentine's Day consistently ranks as one of the most popular days for proposals, with a significant spike in engagement ring purchases leading up to this romantic day. Brides reports that Signet Jewelers, the largest diamond relator in the world, has been tracking diamond purchases and predicts up to 2.5 million weddings in 2024. The numbers will only continue to climb over the next three years. I will get into the why in another blog post because that will be long!
Asheville Statistics
While I have you here, let’s discuss Asheville statistics…brought to you by Wedding Market Report!
Last year, there were an estimated 4,324 weddings in the Asheville area. At first glance, that might not seem like a huge number, but when you consider the number of days in a year, weekends, and venues in the area, that number seems almost conceivable. We’re talking about around 83 weddings per week, and of course, most couples want a Friday or Saturday.
Planning Ahead
Again, Anna Britt, why are we discussing these statistics on what is supposed to be the most romantic day of the year?
On average, I see that the engagement period for couples is closer to the 9-month mark now. Now, that’s perfectly fine, but when you have this quick turnaround for your engagement, you have to work a little faster to plan your wedding.
This means the venue you’ve been following for a while may not have the date you want available, or the photographer you love may already be booked. With shorter engagement periods, it's important to stay a little more open-minded and flexible.
Hiring a wedding professional can help alleviate a lot of this stress! I’m currently working on planning a wedding for a couple in 6 months. Without the help of a professional, that is a super, super hard thing to do. But my couple doesn’t have to worry about that. They get to sit back and wait until I bring the venues and vendors to them. All they’ve had to do is answer a couple of questionnaires and do a couple of phone calls with me and I do all of the work. They just have to tell me yes or no. This is how wedding planning should be! I really work with my couples to instill in them that they are the guest of honor! Not the host.
So often, couples go without booking a wedding planner for many reasons. And I understand a lot of those reasons. Personally, I know when the time comes that I won’t hire a wedding planner (since I am one), but I will need help on the day of, so I will hire a Day-of Coordinator! Because we all need help! And it’s okay to ask for help!
